Makeover Monday : Ottoman Edition

My job is to help make your home your happy place. There are a lot of specifics hidden inside that description and one of those is respecting your budget.

If you are a close friend of mine, you know I have a knack for turning something old into something new. It's my favorite way to personalize a space and it guarantees that your room is one of a kind. My latest flip took quite a bit of searching but it was so worth the search after I saw the finished product. I needed two 24 x 24 inch ottomans and was coming up empty. I found two custom options that were okay but completely busted the budget so something had to give.

Enter... two of these not so glamorous large leather ottomans. The stitching was coming apart, leather was peeling, tufted wasn't in our look, and they were just overall blah. Buttttt, the legs work, they were still sturdy, and they were $25 a piece!

My clients fell in love the with the initial fabric I specified for a long coffee table ottoman so we ordered yardage and had the cubes reupholstered. They look amazing and my clients are happy they 1) got what they wanted and 2) saved some serious cash! Sometimes all it takes is the right eye and a few extra steps (on my end) to make it work!

How's that for a makeover Monday? Bright, bold, and ready to take on the week! Do you have any good trash to treasure stories? I'd love to hear about it in the comments below!

Three Season Retreat Complete

Summer is hanging on here in the mitten state. It's been 85+ recently and should hold steady for another day or two. While I've been making sure to soak up all this hot sunny goodness I am still so ready for long sleeve, mug in my hand all day, hot cider weather.

As the seasons changed last week, I wrapped up a project on an enclosed porch while my clients were out of town. I wanted them to come home to a fully finished space and be able to relax in the evenings on these last few hot days. This space includes the clients' existing rocker that has seen a number of generations and a table purchased on a memorable visit to India. These pieces are already so full of color so it was a great jumping off point for the design direction.

I defined the seating space with a navy braided rug and warm wicker furniture. The neutral linen-like outdoor fabric and soft curved lines compliment the clients' existing traditional pieces while plush seating and calm coastal blues invite you to unwind. Plenty of warm toned pillows and bold patterned ottomans give this space some one of a kind personality. My clients were thrilled and said it finally felt like an extension of their home, a place where they can enjoy the outdoors and beautiful Michigan weather!

What do your outdoor living dreams include? A built in grill, dining under twinkly lights, or a cozy room out of the rain just like here? Enjoy these last few days of the heat and I'll see ya next week when fall rolls around.

No Theme Nursery Design

There once was a time when I completed rooms little by little around my house. Then my husband and I found out we had a baby on the way. All of a sudden things needed to get done and FAST. So I did the nursery all at once and kept to our tight budget thanks to savvy shopping and DIY makeovers.

We tested every rocker available, registered to our hearts desire, and shopped our house for what could be used in the nursery so we didn't have to splurge on everything. Chase's room is now my favorite room in the house, and the silly boy doesn't even sleep in there. But he occasionally likes to make goofy faces in his crib so we'll start there...

The nursery's white base and pops of color have me dreaming of painting our next house white all over. There's no true "theme" which was the intent and we love it. We splurged on the glider and rug, saved his dresser from the curb and gave it a makeover with paint and homemade leather pulls, and had fun with the art and accent pieces.

Kid's rooms are my new favorite because anything goes. Which is really how we should live in the rest of our home. Lesson learned. Live colorfully, live relaxed, live messy, just live like you. It's your house, why not?

Love:  1. warm fuzzy feeling  2. your favorite things  3. can never have enough of it

Hue:  1. color makes me happy  2. triggers emotional response 3. a little or a lot

Home:  1. the easiest place to be yourself  2. where life happens  3. where love grows

No textbook definitions here, but that's life. We are all so beautifully different, in what we love, what we do, and how we live our day to day. My goal is to design gorgeous spaces that allow you to truly LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE.

This looks different for everybody and that's what gets me excited about every new project. Whether you're single, married, have 5 kids, or 12 cats, you should feel happy at home. For you that may mean a styled formal space for cocktail parties or a stunning but livable space that functions as the play room, living room, and office on any given day. My point it no matter what life looks like I'm here to help. I want to help. At the end of the day, I would love for you to walk through your door and have your heart feel happy to be home.
